There are a few things in life so beautiful they hurt: swimming in the ocean while it rains, reading alone in empty libraries, the sea of stars that appear when you’re miles away from the neon lights of the city, bars after 2am, walking in the wilderness, all the phases of the moon, the things we do not know about the universe, and you.

I know what her and I had wasn’t normal.
I know a neighbour should not
be able to recite
word for word
the poisonous things we screamed
to each other in the early hours, I know
it should not be the responsibility of our
friends and family to weather the fallout
of the awful acts we committed to each
other all in the name of love and revenge
but I loved her
and I never wanted a quiet, sensible
sort of love
I wanted to be devoured.
The advice i’ve always been given is to see
the world for all it has to offer before
I settle down, though I never understood it.
I cannot imagine seeing foreign places and
cities without you in them,
I want to be adventurers together,
create one story to tell our children,
I want to cover the entirety of the earth
in two pairs of footsteps.
